My Beech 18 passion
This is a slight departure from my art, but for anyone who knows me, a big passion of mine. The Beech 18 is a wonderful aeroplane. I love the 1930s design, the rounded edges to all the surfaces, it oozes class. I hesitate to say this, but for me it even beats the Spitfire on looks. I have held a long-term ambition to own one, and I know that one day I will. Okay so it won't be a flying example, but I will restore it over time and then one day perhaps it will fly.
There are many variants of the type, with later versions having substantial modifications to the original airframe design as well as to the powerplants, but for me it is the low cabin original I love the most.
I have been very fortunate in recent years to have met and got to know a number of people who own and or operate 18s, both in Europe and the US, some have generously given me parts and I have bought others. I have an original 1951 SNB-5 All Weather Instrument panel, a Rudder, and a control wheel, plus a growing number of instruments and cockpit radio equipment.
This section shows the pieces I have, and as they increase, so will this section - stay tuned for long enough and you may see an entire plane appear!
Anyway, if you have comments, a similar interest, parts to offer, or could get me parts I've love to hear from you, just go to the contact page and I'll reply as soon as I get your message.
I'd also like to build a cockpit, so if you know where I could get accurate dimensions and/or blueprints please do let me know.
